The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort offer a one-of-a-kind Disney stay that blends the magic of Walt Disney World with the feel of a peaceful national park lodge. Tucked among tall pine trees and winding trails, this resort feels like a woodland escape just minutes from Magic Kingdom.
Instead of traditional hotel rooms, guests stay in private, freestanding cabins that provide extra space, privacy, and home-style comforts. This makes Fort Wilderness especially popular with families, extended stays, and groups who want the flexibility of a kitchen and the relaxed atmosphere of the great outdoors — without leaving Disney property.
From early May 2025 through mid-2026, construction will take place near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool will remain open for Guests to enjoy. During this time, seating availability around the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool may be limited and Guests may see or hear construction in the area. Guests using bus transportation should follow posted signage to reach the pool area.

Who Should Stay at Fort Wilderness Cabins and Why
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness are a great choice for:
Families Who Want Extra Space: With a separate bedroom, living area, and full kitchen, the cabins feel much more spacious than a standard Moderate room.
Larger Groups of 5–6: The cabins comfortably sleep up to six guests, making them a great alternative to booking two Value rooms.
Guests Who Want a Kitchen: A full kitchen makes it easy to prepare breakfast, manage dietary needs, or save money on dining during longer stays.
Dog-Friendly Disney Trips: One of the few Disney resort experiences where dogs are truly welcomed. With pet-friendly campsites and the Waggin’ Trails Dog Park, it’s ideal for guests who don’t want to leave their furry family members behind.
Nature Lovers: Surrounded by wooded trails and wildlife, Fort Wilderness offers a peaceful, outdoorsy setting unlike any other Disney resort.
Repeat Disney Visitors Looking for Something Different: The cabin experience feels unique and tucked away while still keeping you fully in the Disney bubble.
Who Should Consider Another Resort
This resort may not be ideal for:
Guests Who Want Quick, Direct Transportation to the Parks: Fort Wilderness is large and requires internal bus transportation or golf carts to get around.
First-Time Visitors Focused on Maximizing Park Time: The extra travel time may feel inconvenient for guests planning long park days.
Travelers Who Want Bold, Character-Forward Theming: The cabins lean rustic and subtle rather than oversized Disney icons.
Couples Seeking a Deluxe or Romantic Atmosphere: While peaceful, the vibe is more practical and family-focused than luxurious.

Fort Wilderness Location
Located in the Magic Kingdom resort area, tucked away on 750 acres of wooded property along Bay Lake. The setting feels peaceful and secluded, offering a quiet escape from the energy of the parks while still keeping you within the Disney bubble.
Transportation to Magic Kingdom is available by boat from the marina, offering a scenic and relaxing start to your day. Bus transportation is provided to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs. Because Fort Wilderness is expansive, guests may use internal bus loops or rent golf carts to travel between their cabin, dining locations, and the marina.
The resort is also located next to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and shares water access to the surrounding resort area. Its location makes it feel removed and serene, but it does require a bit more travel time compared to resorts directly on the monorail line.

Final Thoughts
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness offer one of the most unique stays at Walt Disney World. With extra space, a full kitchen, and a peaceful wooded setting, they feel more like a private vacation rental than a traditional Disney hotel room — all while keeping you fully immersed in the Disney experience.
They’re an especially strong choice for families who value space and flexibility over proximity and convenience. While transportation requires a bit more planning, many guests find the quiet atmosphere and room to spread out well worth it.
If you’re looking for something different from the typical Disney resort layout — and love the idea of ending your park days surrounded by nature — the cabins offer a comfortable and thoughtfully updated retreat.
Quick Tip: You will want a car or golf cart to get around if you don't want to wait for the internal bus. Keep this in mind regarding your budget.
