Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground offers a one-of-a-kind way to experience Walt Disney World — blending the magic of Disney with the peaceful charm of the great outdoors. Tucked away along the shores of Bay Lake, this sprawling, forested resort feels more like a national park than a theme park hotel. It’s perfect for guests who love RV travel, tent camping, and wide-open spaces — without giving up Disney perks like complimentary transportation, early park entry, and immersive theming.
Whether you’re pulling in with a fully equipped motorhome or pitching a tent under the stars, Fort Wilderness delivers a relaxed, community-style atmosphere with campfires, wagon rides, and scenic trails — all just a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom.
From early May 2025 through mid-2026, construction will take place near the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool and Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool will remain open for Guests to enjoy. During this time, seating availability around the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool may be limited and Guests may see or hear construction in the area. Guests using bus transportation should follow posted signage to reach the pool area.

RV Travelers & Campers: Guests bringing motorhomes, travel trailers, or tents will love the full hook-ups, spacious sites, and dedicated loops designed for easy setup and comfort.
Dog-Friendly Disney Trips: One of the few Disney resort experiences where dogs are truly welcomed. With pet-friendly campsites and the Waggin’ Trails Dog Park, it’s ideal for guests who don’t want to leave their furry family members behind.
Outdoor-Loving Families: If your group enjoys biking, campfires, fishing, and nature trails as much as theme parks, this resort offers the perfect balance of both worlds.
Extended Stays: With full utilities, room to spread out, and easy access to recreation, Fort Wilderness is especially popular for longer Disney vacations.
Who Should Consider Another Resort
This resort may not be ideal for:
Guests Who Want Quick, Direct Transportation to the Parks: Fort Wilderness is large and requires internal bus transportation or golf carts to get around.
First-Time Visitors Focused on Maximizing Park Time: The extra travel time may feel inconvenient for guests planning long park days.
Travelers Who Want Bold, Character-Forward Theming: The cabins lean rustic and subtle rather than oversized Disney icons.
Couples Seeking a Deluxe or Romantic Atmosphere: While peaceful, the vibe is more practical and family-focused than luxurious.
Resort Theming
Fort Wilderness is designed to feel like a peaceful woodland retreat tucked away from the bustle of the parks. The resort is surrounded by tall pines, winding paths, and natural landscapes that create a true “camp in the woods” atmosphere.

Location
Located in the Magic Kingdom resort area, tucked away on 750 acres of wooded property along Bay Lake. The setting feels peaceful and secluded, offering a quiet escape from the energy of the parks while still keeping you within the Disney bubble.
Transportation to Magic Kingdom is available by boat from the marina, offering a scenic and relaxing start to your day. Bus transportation is provided to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs. Because Fort Wilderness is expansive, guests may use internal bus loops or rent golf carts to travel between their cabin, dining locations, and the marina.
The resort is also located next to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and shares water access to the surrounding resort area. Its location makes it feel removed and serene, but it does require a bit more travel time compared to resorts directly on the monorail line.
