Are Disney World Refillable Mugs Worth It? What to Know Before You Buy

A Walt Disney World vacation usually means long days in the sun, humidity that won’t quit, and a little more activity than most of us are used to - which also means staying hydrated has to be a priority!
While my #1 tip for any theme park day is to bring a reusable water bottle and take advantage of all the free water available, not everyone wants to drink water all day long. If you’re someone who likes a little variety, you’ve probably come across Disney refillable mugs and wondered if they’re actually worth it.
Are Disney Refillable Mugs Worth It? (The Quick Answer)
Pros:
Worth it if you drink 2+ beverages daily at your resort
Best for resort-heavy trips or rest days
Valid for 14 days, so best for long stays
Cons:
Not worth it if you’re in the parks all day
Only work at Disney Resort hotels (not parks)
Once you understand how refillable mugs work - by reviewing the information below - you’ll be able to decide if purchasing one is right for you!
What Are Disney Refillable Mugs and How Do They Work?
Disney World refillable mugs are 16oz insulated plastic souvenir mugs you can purchase at your Disney Resort hotel. As of early 2026, they cost $22.99 per person and are included in Disney dining plans for guests ages 3 and up.
For a flat fee, you can enjoy unlimited refills at beverage stations located in quick-service dining spots inside Disney Resort hotels. They’re an easy way to grab coffee in the morning, a soda in the afternoon, or something warm at night without paying per drink each time.
One important thing to know upfront - these mugs only work at Disney Resort hotels. They do NOT work in the theme parks, even if you bring them with you.
Most resorts offer Coca-Cola products, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Some also have Coca-Cola Freestyle machines with a wider variety of options like flavored sodas and specialty drinks. Milk and fresh juices are not included.
Each mug has an RFID chip that activates on first use and stays active for 14 days. During that time, you can use it at any Disney Resort hotel - not just the one you’re staying at. This makes them especially convenient for split stays, resort hopping, or dining at different resorts throughout your trip.
Are Disney Refillable Mugs Worth It for Your Trip?
Whether or not Disney refillable mugs are worth it really comes down to your travel style.
They’re a great fit if you’re planning to spend time at your resort and like having easy access to drinks throughout the day. They’re especially useful for slow mornings, midday breaks, or evenings when you’re winding down after the parks.
If you’re someone who grabs a coffee every morning or enjoys a soda or sports drink in the afternoon, it’s fairly easy to get your money’s worth - especially considering most of those drinks cost $5+ individually. And if you’re on a dining plan, you’ll automatically receive one, so you might as well use it.
On the flip side, if you’re planning to be in the parks from rope drop to fireworks most days, you may not use it enough to justify the cost. The same goes if you primarily drink water.
One thing I always remind people: water is free at Disney. You can get cups of ice water at quick-service locations or bring your own refillable bottle and use water stations throughout the parks and resorts. If that’s your go-to, a refillable mug probably isn’t necessary.
For my family, they fall into the “nice to have, but not necessary” category. In our multi-generational trips, one or two people usually get a mug and use it most in the mornings and evenings. On full park days, though, they don’t get much use beyond that first cup of coffee - which you can also make in your room.
Refillable mugs are a great fit if you:
Plan to spend time at your resort (rest days, pool time, or midday breaks)
Tend to grab at least 1–2 beverages per day at your resort
Prefer regular coffee over specialty drinks/lattes at Starbucks or Joffrey’s
Are staying for several days (more time = more value)
Are doing a split stay and want something that works across multiple resorts
Enjoy soda, tea, or other fountain drinks throughout the day
Are on a Disney dining plan (since they’re already included)
Like having a souvenir you’ll actually use after your trip
You may want to skip them if you:
Plan to spend most of your time in the parks
Primarily drink water (which is always free at Disney)
Prefer grabbing drinks occasionally instead of throughout the day
Are only staying 1 - 2 nights
Don’t want to carry an extra mug around
Disney World Refillable Mug FAQs
There are a few common questions that come up with refillable mugs that are helpful to know ahead of time:
How much are Disney refillable mugs? As of early 2026, they cost $22.99 per person and are included in Disney dining plans for guests ages 3 and up.
Can you use Disney refillable mugs in the Disney World theme parks? No. They only work at Disney Resort hotels. You’re welcome to bring them to the parks, but they won’t activate there.
Can you use Disney refillable mugs at water parks? No. They only work at Disney Resort hotels. You’re welcome to bring them to the water parks, but they won’t activate there.
Do Disney refillable mugs include alcohol? No. The resort refillable mugs typically include Coca-Cola products, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. They do NOT include alcoholic beverages.
Can you use a mug from a previous trip: No. The RFID chip is only active for 14 days, so each trip requires a new mug. The upside? Disney rotates designs, so they can be a fun souvenir to collect.
Do Disney refillable mugs work at every Disney resort? Yes! Once activated, you can use your mug at any Disney Resort hotel, not just the one you’re staying at.
Do they work for a split-stay? Yes! They’re valid for 14 days, so they’ll continue working even if you move between resorts.
Can multiple people share one mug? Technically, no - mugs are intended for individual use. While Mickey doesn’t monitor who is enjoying each refill, there is a “cool down” period of 2 - 3 minutes between refills to prevent immediate, consecutive refills and reduce sharing.
Are they leak-proof? Not quite. They have lids to help prevent spills, but they’re not fully sealed - best for carrying by hand rather than tossing into a bag. You could always transfer your refillable beverage into a travel mug or water bottle that completely seals, but then you have to carry around an extra mug which can be a hassle.
Do Disney refillable mugs hold onto flavors? They can, especially with stronger drinks like coffee. Most refillable stations have a sink for you to rinse mugs between uses, but if you’re sensitive to taste, it’s easiest to stick to similar drinks each refill. Personally, I don’t have an issue tasting previous flavors, but my sister who detests coffee always complains about the taste when flavors are mixed in the same mug.
Are the mugs dishwasher safe? Yes, the mugs are promoted as dishwasher safe and microwave safe - though microwaving plastic is a personal preference.
Still trying to decide if Disney refillable mugs make sense for your trip? This is one of those small details that can really depend on your resort, schedule, and travel style.
