Eating at Walt Disney World with Food Allergies: Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Guide

Traveling with food allergies or intolerances can be scary. You never quite know how foods are being prepared or if there’s a risk of cross-contamination, and that sense of control can feel lost.

I get it. I personally have a gluten and dairy intolerance that developed in adulthood, and since then, traveling has come with a whole new layer of worry. Will I actually get to enjoy the food a destination has to offer? Because let’s be honest… trying new food is one of the best parts of traveling! Or will I accidentally eat something I shouldn’t because of an oversight at a restaurant? And then pay for it the rest of the trip!

The good news is that you can still enjoy delicious food that is safely prepared while traveling, especially at Walt Disney World!

What to Expect When Dining with Food Allergies at Disney World

Most restaurants at Disney World offer allergy-friendly menus designed for guests with food allergies. These can easily be viewed online or on the My Disney Experience app for easy planning. These menus typically highlight options that avoid common allergens like gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, soy, and more, making it much easier to plan before your meal. Most people who live with food allergies already know that planning ahead is key!

When you arrive at a table-service restaurant, let your server know that someone at the table has an allergy (they will often ask ahead of time). The chef will then come out and speak to you about your allergies and highlight what offerings would be good for your specific allergies (and what to avoid!) This is also true at quick service, but since you are ordering from a counter and not sitting down, just make sure to speak to the cast member before placing an order.

Just a fair warning…while Disney does their best to bring all the food at the same time, sometimes the allergy tagged food might come out a few minutes later. This is because the food is cooked separately to avoid cross-contamination and always handled with special care. It is ALWAYS fresh though!! Speaking of tags…always look for the purple pick in your food upon arrival! This indicated that it has been prepared with allergy precautions.

Best Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free Foods at Disney World (My Favorites)

One of my biggest fears when traveling is that I won’t be able to enjoy the delicious food like everyone else. That is just not the case when visiting Disney World. There is truly no shortage of allergy-friendly yummy eats! Here are my top 5 favorite Gluten Free/Dairy Free treats!

5. Gluten-Free Mickey Waffles (available at many resort restaurants)  You can’t go to Disney without having Mickey waffles, and the good news is many resort restaurants offer an allergy-friendly version! These gluten-free waffles are a staple breakfast for me when I visit Walt Disney World, and they’re just as fun and delicious as the classic version.

4. Mr. Kamal’s Seasoned Fries (Animal Kingdom) I’m a sucker for french fries!! Seriously…my go-to “girl dinner” is a crispy Diet Coke and fries! So, whenever I’m in Animal Kingdom, I make sure to stop by Mr. Kamal’s for their seasoned fries. They are next-level good! * The ingredients themselves are typically deemed gluten-free, but they are prepared in a shared fryer with other items

3. Dole Whip (Available at multiple locations across Walt Disney World including Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom) This iconic Disney treat is naturally dairy-free and gluten-free, making it one of the best allergy-friendly snacks at Disney World. It’s refreshing, sweet, and honestly, one of those snacks that never gets old. And for dairy-free individuals who miss a good ice cream treat, this is as close as you can get!

2. Gluten-Free Beignets – Scat Cat’s Club (Port Orleans French Quarter) These gluten-free beignets are what dreams are made of! Only found in Scat Cat’s Club at Port Orleans French Quarter, these gluten-free beignets are warm, fluffy, and dusted with a generous amount of powdered sugar. Every time I visit Disney, I make sure to make a special trip to the resort just for them!

1. Churros from Nomad Lounge – Animal Kingdom The first time I had the churros from Nomad Lounge, I thought my soul left my body! They are UNBELIEVABLY good! They’re served with a vanilla dipping sauce but personally, I like them without. They are a perfect mixture of crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I actually had to double check with the cast member that they were indeed gluten-free because they were THAT good! I dream about the day that I will have them again!

FAQs:

Do I need to tell Disney about my food allergy ahead of time?  It’s always a good idea to note your allergy when making dining reservations, but you should also let your server or a Cast Member know when you arrive at the restaurant. They are used to helping guests navigate allergies and will make sure the kitchen is aware.

Will a chef really come speak with me?  At many table-service restaurants, yes! A chef or specially trained Cast Member will often come to your table to talk through the menu and help guide you toward safe options based on your allergy or intolerance.

Are there allergy-friendly options at quick service restaurants?  Yes! Many quick-service locations offer allergy-friendly menus that you can view in the My Disney Experience app. You can also speak with a Cast Member before ordering if you have questions about ingredients or preparation.

Can Disney guarantee food will be completely allergen-free?  No restaurant can guarantee that food will be completely free from allergens due to the possibility of cross-contact. Disney takes many precautions, but it’s always important to speak directly with a Cast Member so you can make the best choice for your individual needs.
